Biographie

Leo Neugebauer will never forget his 23rd birthday. In June 2023, the German track and field athlete celebrated his birthday and shattered the 39-year-old German decathlon record set by Jürgen Hingsen with an impressive 8,836 points during the NCAA Championships.

Neugebauer’s score was also a collegiate record and vaulted him to eighth place on the all-time list.

Before this breakthrough, Neugebauer's journey in athletics began in Germany in his hometown outside Stuttgart, where he started the sport as an after-school activity at six. Despite initially playing football, he decided to fully immerse himself in athletics. Following the German junior athletics programme, he competed in different events before dedicating himself to the decathlon.

Neugebauer gained national attention for his talents in 2016 after participating in the German Junior Athletics Championship and finishing second in the decathlon. The next year, he continued to impress by winning a bronze medal at the Under-18 World Championships held in Nairobi.
