Biographie

Konrad Frey was the most successful German participant at the Berlin Games with 3 gold and 6 medals in all, along with his teammate, Alfred Schwarzmann, and they were surpassed in public opinion only by American track and field athlete Jesse Owens. Frey won gold on the parallel bars, pommelled horse, and team all-around, adding a silver on the horizontal bar, and bronze medals in the floor exercise and individual all-around. In 1932, 1935 and 1937, Frey was German Champion in individual all-around. During World War II he was a sergeant in the German Wehrmacht. After the war, he worked as a gymnastics and sports teacher as he did before the war, retiring in 1967. At the 1972 Munich Games he was a guest of honor of the West German National Olympic Committee.
