At the World Championships, he won a gold medal with the coxed eights in 1975, and a silver medal with the coxed fours in 1970. In 1973, he won the Europeans with the coxed eights, and in 1969 collected a bronze with the coxless fours. Domestically, he won East German national titles with the eights (1973-75), the coxed fours (1970) and the coxless fours (1969).

Prudöhl trained as a plumber and worked with the People’s Navy in the former GDR, where he rose to the rank of corvette captain. Beside his work, he studied sports, and graduated at the DHfK Leipzig. From 1978-89 he worked as a rowing coach at his home club ASK Vorwärts Rostock. He then joined the German Bundeswehr as a sports teacher. Since 1992 he led the fitness and wellness centre at a hotel in Warnemünde.
