Biographie

Middle distance runner Jens-Peter Herold earned the bronze medal in the 1,500 at the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games for East Germany and placed sixth four years later with the Unified German team. He took part in four World Championships: 1987 (6th), 1991 (4th), 1993 and 1995 (eliminated in the heats). In 1991 he reduced his speed shortly before the finish line, feeling he had secured the bronze medal but was overtaken by his teammate Hauke Fuhlbrügge. At the World Cup he was runner-up in the 800 and third in the 1,500 in 1989. His biggest success was the 1990 European title in the 1,500, winning the European indoor title the same year. Three years earlier he earned a silver at the European Indoors. Domestically he won both 10 East German and 10 German titles after reunification.

Personal Best: 1500 – 3:32.77 (1992).
