Biographie

Camille Tournier was mainly famous as a mountaineer and mountain guide. In 1918, he started his training as a porter and six years later he became a licensed guide. In 1944, he was a member of a rope team that made the first ascent of the Aiguille de Midi. Later, he was elected chairman of the Society of Mountain Guides in Chamonix and also of the respective national society. He was an active climber into his 60s and was involved in many mountain rescue operations.
