Biographie

James Hewson won six AAU titles as a distance walker between 1955 and 1958. In addition to competing as a walker at the 1956 Olympics, he won a silver medal as a rower in the coxless fours at the 1955 Pan American Games, a very unusual combination of sports. Hewson competed as an oarsman despite weighing only about 65 kg. (143 lbs.). He represented the St. Francis Xavier AC in athletics and the West Side Rowing Club. He was later murdered.

Personal Bests: 20kmW – 1-39:16 (1956); 50kmW – 4-43:30 (1958).
