Jack Higginson won the AAA triple jump in 1924 and 1926. He won the Northern Counties title five times (1924-28), setting an English Native record in 1926. He died on the way to hospital, after he sustained a heart attack while taking a walk in his local park. His son, Jack Jr., was also a notable triple jumper, placing second at the AAA Championships in 1934-35, winning the Northern title six times (1933-37, 1939), and finishing fifth in the 1934 British Empire Games.
