Biographie

German swimmer Hilde Schrader won the gold medal at the 1928 Olympics in the 200 metre breaststroke. She also won the 1927 European Championships. The same year she won a German title in the 100 breaststroke. In 1928 Schrader set a world record in the 400 breaststroke with 6:46.4, and one year later set another world mark in the 220 yards (2:57.8), becoming the first female under 3 minutes.

After World War II Schrader was employed as a transport worker by a Magdeburg heavy machinery enterprise. In 1994 she was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame.
