Hans Scheele was 1934 European Champion in the 400 metres hurdles, and the 4x400 metres relay. At the 1936 Berlin Olympics he was eliminated in the heats of the 400 hurdles. In 1934-36 Scheele was German Champion in the intermediate hurdles. His sons Klaus and Horst Scheele also became nationally prominent track and field athletes.
Hans Scheele was a business man, but was mobilized in 1939 for World War II. In 1941, at the beginning of the Russia campaign, he was killed in action in today’s Belarus near Buynichi. The Master Sergeant was buried at Mogilev in the soldier’s cemetery.
