Biographie

West German boxer Hans Huber from Regensburg originally played soccer in his youth, and then became a wrestler and claimed two silvers in 1956 and 1960 at the West German nationals. As he did not have any chance to win against legend Wilfried Dietrich he moved to boxing in 1961.

Huber won a surprising silver medal in the heavyweight class at the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games, only losing a closely fought bout against future legend Joe Frazier. For this, Huber was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, the highest sports award in Germany. In 1963 he was West German champion, losing that year in the quarter-finals at the Europeans. By profession, Huber was a bus driver.
