Biographie

Godtfred Holmvang competed internationally for Norway as a decathlete, and nationally in skiing and orienteering. His greatest title on the track was winning the 1946 European Championships decathlon. Holmvang was Norwegian decathlon champion in 1939, 1946, and 1948, his career interrupted by World War II (Holmvang was a prisoner-of-war in 1943). He also was Norwegian 110 metre hurdles champion in 1946. He later helped establish orienteering in Notodden, Norway. A prominent lawyer, he attended law school in Oslo, and received further education at the London School of Economics and earned a Master of Law Degree from Harvard. He worked for the United Nations to help develop international maritime laws, and later settled in Vancouver, Canada, where he worked as a legal advisor to the shipping industry.
