Fred Wilt was a nine-time AAU distance champion, winning the 3-miles from 1949-51 and the cross-country in 1949 and 1952-53. In 1950 he won the Sullivan Award as the nation's top amateur athlete. He later became a well-known track coach at Purdue.
Personal Bests: 1500 – 3:53.1 (1949); Mile – 4:08.5i (1951); 2 miles – 8:54.5 (1951); 5000 – 14:26.8 (1950); 10000 – 30:41.2 (1952).
