Biographie

Frank Cumiskey, initially a pole vaulter, was one of the greatest gymnasts this country has ever produced. He won 24 National Championships including five all-around titles. He competed on three Olympic teams – those of 1932, 1936 and 1948 – and surely would have been named to the Olympic teams during the war years. At the 1948 Olympics he was given the honor of accompanying the United States flag bearer, Ralph Craig, as part of an honor guard at the Opening Ceremony. After his active career he became a judge and official in the US Gymnastics Federation and was team manager of the American team in 1952 in Helsinki. He competed for the Swiss Gymnastics Club in New Jersey, where he also worked as a coach. Cumiskey later became the leading American historian of gymnastics. He was among the first inductees to the USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame.
