Biographie

Edward Spencer was initially a long-distance specialist who competed in the London-Brighton walk. On turning to track racing he narrowly won a bronze medal in the 10 mile walk at the 1908 Olympics. Spencer and Frank Carter walked in together and were given identical times, but the judges gave the verdict to Spencer. Born in Lancashire, Spencer moved to London where he worked as a solicitor’s clerk.

Personal Best: 20 mile Walk – 1-21:20.2 (1908).
