Biographie

Together with his brother Piet, Cor Wijdekop participated in the 10 km folding kayak doubles at the Berlin Games. It was the first time canoeing was an Olympic sport, but the last time the folding kayak event was held. In a 45-minute race, the Wijdekop brothers were outside of the medals for most of the race, but managed to pass the Austrians in the last stretch, winning a bronze medal. Throughout his life, Cor was present at the Kanovereniging Viking, his club in Amsterdam. He had been present when the club was established in 1930, and served as a member, trainer, volunteer and president of the club. In 1981, the club established the annual Gebroeders Wijdekop Race, a K2 competition named after Cor and his brother.
