Claude Martin rowed fours at both the 1952 and 1960 Olympic Games, winning a silver at Roma. At the European Championships he always rowed the pair, winning the title in 1953 with Daniel Forget, and then taking a silver medal in 1954 and a bronze in 1955, partnered those years by Édouard Leguery. Martin and Leguery also won a gold medal at the 1955 Mediterranean Games.
After his sports career Martin entered politics, serving in the French legislature as a member of the UDR (Union des démocrates pour la République) party from 1968-73 and again from 1978-81.
