Charlie Simpkins was a triple jumper who competed at the 1988 and 1992 Olympics, winning a silver medal in 1992. Simpkins attended Baptist College, graduating in 1985. He was US Champion in 1986 and 1992, and was third at the US nationals in 1985, 1987, and 1990. In January 1986, at a meet in Los Angeles, Simpkins jumped 17.50 to set a world indoor record. He later became a coach, serving as a jumps coach at the University of Tennessee, and also coaching field events for the Knoxville Track Club.
