Carl Schueler was TAC 50 km. walk champion in 1980 and 1984-87. He also competed for the USA at the 1979, 1985, and 1987 World Cup and the 1987 Pan American Games and World Championships. Schueler specialized at 50 km, but was US Champion 14 times – 7 in the 50 km, 3 in the 40 km, one at 25 km and 35 km, and twice at 30 km. In the 50 km, he was ranked #1 in the US by Track & Field News every year from 1980-92, except for 1983 and 1985. He later did some coaching, notably serving as coach for the USA Racewalk Team for the 1999 World Cup in Mezidon, France and the 2004 World Cup in Naumberg, Germany.
After obtaining a masters’ degree in regional planning from the University of Michigan, Schueler moved to Colorado Springs in 1984, where he worked for El Paso County for almost 25 years, and then worked for the city of Colorado Springs. Schueler was later inducted into the Colorado Springs Sports Hall of Fame.
