Brigitte Dumont-Gapais was a foil fencer who competed for France at the 1964, 1968, 1972, and 1976 Olympics. She won one Olympic medal, a silver in team foil in 1976. Brigitte competed as Brigitte Gapais in 1964 and 1968, but then married Bernard Dumont, a sabreur fencer who competed at the 1972 and 1976 Olympics. She was World Junior Champion in individual foil in 1964, and won five French individual senior titles – in 1965, 1968-69, 1974, and 1976.
Dumont-Gapais later worked in sports administration, serving as Vice-President of the French Olympic Committee from 1976-81. In 1985 she became secretary-general of the French Fencing Federation, a position she held for 15 years. She was a graduate of the Arms Masters and was an international arbitrator. Dumont-Gapais was made an honorary member of the FIE and French Fencing Federation. She died on the same day as one of her teammates from Montréal, Christine Muzio.
