He competed at three Olympics, riding the pursuit in 1976 at Montreal, the road race and team time trial in 1980 at Moscow, and the road race at Los Angeles in 1984. Ropret’s major career title was winning the 1981 Tour of Serbia. His other major podium appearance during his career was a second at the 1977 Uniqa Classic. He rode the Tour de l’Avenir twice, in 1977 and 1979, without distinction, and also competed in the 1981 Peace Race, and the 1983 and 1984 Tour of Austria, placing fourth in 1984 in the sprints competition. He competed three times at the World Championships (1981-83), riding the team pursuit each time and racing in 1981 in the amateur road race. Ropret later competed for Slovenia in masters races.
