Alison KORN

Alison Korn took up rowing in the early 1990s as a student at Montreal’s McGill University and made the Canadian national team just in time to compete at the 1996 Summer Olympics where, alongside Tosha Tsang, Maria Maunder, Heather McDermid, Emma Robinson, Anna Van der Kamp, Jessica Monroe, Theresa Luke, and Lesley Thompson-Willie, she won a silver medal in the eights. She repeated this feat, albeit with an almost completely different crew consisting of Monroe, Robinson, Thompson-Willie, Buffy Alexander-Williams, Laryssa Biesenthal, Dorota Urbaniak, Kristen Wall, and the non-Olympian Kubet Weston, at the 1997 World Championships, where she also captured gold in the coxless pairs with Robinson. The duo won the event again in 1998 and picked up bronze in the eights with Alexander-Williams, Biesenthal, Thompson-Willie, Urbaniak, Weston, Marnie McBean, and the non-Olympian Erika Pataki. The Canadian eights won bronze again at the 1999 edition, exchanging McBean and Pataki for Luke and McDermid. Korn won her final major international medal, bronze, in the eighths event at the 2000 Summer Olympics, with Heather Davis substituting for Weston. In addition to the political science degree she received at McGill, Korn earned a master’s degree from Carleton University’s School of Journalism and Communication and has worked as a journalist since retiring from active competition.
