Biographie

Alfredo Goyeneche was an equestrian rider who won a bronze medal in 1956 at the European Junior Championships, and also competed at the 1960 Roma Olympics. He later served as President of the Spanish Equestrian Federation from 1981-87. He was an engineer as his profession, but also served as President of the Spanish Olympic Committee from 1998-2002. He had been vice-president of that organization from 1981-87, an important time in which he had a major role in the planning for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Goyeneche was made a member of the IOC in 2000, but had little role in the organization because of his tragic, early death in a car accident in March 2002.
