Biographie

Alan Rice wrestling for the University of Minnesota, winning two Big 10 titles in 1948 and 1949. He also made All-American in his senior year of college, when he captained the Gophers’ wrestling team. Wrestling primarily Greco-Roman after college, Rice placed fifth at the 1954 World Championships and won a silver medal as a featherweight at the 1955 Pan American Games. In 1956 he won AAU titles in both freestyle and Greco. After the 1956 Olympics Rice became a wrestling coach, founding the Minnesota Amateur Wrestling Club (later the Gopher Wrestling Club). He coached the US Greco-Roman wrestlers at the 1972 Olympics. He is a member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, University of Minnesota ‘M’ Club Hall of Fame, the Minnesota Wrestling Hall of Fame, and the Helms Hall of Fame
