Biografía

Road cyclist Wilfried Peffgen finished sixth at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics in the individual road race. He was later well-known for his four-time participation in the Tour de France (1967, 1969, 1972-73), as a six-day racer with 190 starts, mostly together with non-Olympian Albert Fritz, and especially as a motor-paced racer. In 1972 he won the West German pro road race championships. In 1976, 1978 and 1980 he claimed the World Championship title in motor-paced racing, and earned four more European titles, all together with pacer Dieter Durst. Peffgen owned a bicycle shop in Köln (Cologne) and became sporting director of the Dortmund Six-Day Race.
