Biografía

Swimmer Folkert Meeuw competed in four events at the 1968 Mexico City and the 1972 München Olympics, reaching the finals in all four contests. In 1968, he came in sixth both in the 200 butterfly and the 4x200 relay. In 1972, he finished eighth in the 200 butterfly and earned a silver medal with the 4x200 freestyle, although he swam only in the heats. With the 4x200 freestyle relay he won two golds at the European Championships in 1970 and 1974. He also won another gold medal with the 4x100 medley relay at Wien (Vienna) 1974, and a silver with the 4x100 freestyle relay at Barcelona in 1970. Individually he won the 200 butterfly silver in 1970 and a bronze in 1974. Domestically Meeuw won 15 West German titles.

His wife Jutta Weber was also an Olympic swimmer, as was his son Helge and daughter-in-law Antje Buschschulte. Folkert Meeuw later became a teacher in Wiesbaden (sports, biology and music). He also became vice president of the German Swimming Federation DSV.
