Biografía

Vladimir Selkov, one of the best backstroke swimmers in the World in the early 1990s, made his international début at the 1989 European Championships, where he won silver in the 200 backstroke. Selkov, who competed at nine major international tournaments during his career, medaled in every one of them. At the Olympics Games, he won three silver medals: 200 back in 1992 and in the medley relay in 1992 and 1996. At the World Championships Selkov won a full set of medals: gold in the 200 backstroke and silver in the medley relay in 1994 and bronze in the 200 backstroke in 1991. At the European Championships Seklov won eight gold medals (100 backstroke – 1995; 200 backstroke – 1993, 1995, 1997; medley relay – 1991, 1993, 1995, 1997), silver thrice (100 backstroke – 1993; 200 backstroke – 1989, 1991) and one bronze in the 1997 100 metre backstroke. Domestically, Selkov won the Soviet 200 backstroke title in 1989, 100 backstroke title in 1991 and Russian 100 and 200 backstroke titles from 1993-97. After ending his competitive career in 1998, Selkov worked as a swimming coach in his native Perm Kray, also serving as vice-president of the Perm Kray swimming federation.

Personal Best: 100 m backstroke – 55.34 (1995); 200 m backstroke – 1:57.42 (1994).
