Biografía

Udo Hild from Mainzer Rudergesellschaft finished sixth and last in the double sculls final at the 1968 Mexico-City Olympics partnering with Wolfgang Glock. The same year they won the West German national title. At the 1970 Worlds both placed fifth. In 1969 Hild rowed with non-Olympian Klaus Opitz winning the nationals. During his active career he had great rivalries with Jochen Meißner and Wolfgang Glock in the single sculls. Hild was on the podium as second in 1969, 1971 and 1972, but won the 1970 West German title. In 1972 at München he finished an unfortunate fourth in the single sculls final.

Hild trained as a turner, but later studied sports and became a sports teacher and administrator. He worked for several years in the sports administration of Trier and later in Mainz. He also became a youth coach at Rüsselsheimer Ruderklub.
