Biografía

Tetiana Prorochenko did gymnastics before taking up athletics in 1964. An all-around sprinter, Prorochenko was on the Soviet national team from 1975-80, winning a 4x400 relay gold at the 1980 Olympics and 4x100 relay bronze at the 1976 Olympics. She also placed sixth in the 200 at the 1976 Olympics. At the 1978 European Championships Prorochenko won silver in the 4x400 relay and was eliminated in the semi-finals of the 200. She also won a 4x400 relay silver at the 1979 World Cup and 200 and 4x400 relay bronzes at the 1977 World Cup. Prorochenko set one world record during her career, when she was with the Soviet 4x200 relay team that clocked 1:30.8 in 1979. She won five Soviet titles – 200 in 1976; 400 in 1980; 4x200 relay in 1979; and 4x400 relay in 1978-79. Prorochenko finished her sports career after the 1980 Olympics and later married fellow Ukrainian athlete Viktor Burakov, who competed at the 1980 Olympics. Since 1993, Prorochenko worked as a team manager with the Ukrainian national athletics team.
