Biografía

At the age of 13 years 267 days, Marjorie Gestring won the springboard title at the 1936 Berlin Games to become the youngest-ever woman Olympic champion. At the 1936 U.S. Trials, Gestring placed second behind Katherine Rawls, but in the Berlin pool she beat both Rawls and the defending champion, Dorothy Poynton-Hill, to take the gold medal. She won a total of eight AAU titles between 1936 and 1940 and in 1948, still aged only 25, she made a comeback. Placing fourth at the 1948 Final Trials, she barely missed making the Olympic team for a second time. Marjorie Gestring, who usually competed for the Los Angeles AC, later became Mrs. Richard Redlick.
