Biografía

Growing up on a dairy farm helped her become strong, and Lorna Griffin used that strength to become a weight thrower who attended Flathead Valley Community College, Seattle Pacific University and the University of Montana, later representing the Nike Coast Track Club. Griffin won the 1976 AIAW discus throw title, the 1980 TAC discus championship, and won the US Olympic Trials twice, 1980 with the disc, and 1984 in the shot put. At the AIAWs, she was second in discus in 1977 and third in 1978. She competed twice at the Pan-American Games, winning bronze medals in both the shot and discus in 1983.

Griffin later took up volleyball and played that recreationally for several years. She became an assistant track coach at UC Irvine, later coached at Santiago Canyon Community College, and worked as a massage therapist.

Personal Bests: SP – 59-7 [18.16] (1984); DT – 207-5 [63.22] (1980).
