Biografía

Jouko Törmänen made his international début at the 1974 World Championships, where he was fifth on the large hill. At the 1976 Winter Olympics Törmänen was tenth on the large hill and 14th on the normal hill. At the 1978 World Championships, Törmänen won his first international championship medal, a silver in the team event, while placing sixth on the large hill and 15th on the normal hill. The high point of Törmänen’s career was at the 1980 Olympic Winter Games, where he won a gold on the large hill and was eighth on the normal hill. Törmänen made his last international appearance at the 1982 World Championships, placing 22nd on the large hill. Domestically Törmänen won four Finnish titles, in 1976-77 and 1979-80, all on the normal hill. By profession Törmänen was an engineer. He also became a board member of the Finnish Skiing Federation in 1988, and served as vice-president of the Finnish Skiing Federation from 1993-2002. In 1992 he was named chairman of the Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined Committee of the Finnish Skiing Federation and in 2004 was named chairman of the Ski Jumping Committee of the Fédération Internationale de Ski (FIS).
