Biografía

José de Almeida was the top Brazilian sprinter of the 1930s. He won three Brazilian sprint titles and won the 100 metres at the 1933 and 1935 South American Championships. In 1934 he recorded 10.2 for the 100 metres, which bettered the world record, but it was wind-aided and was not ratified. De Almeida worked for the police force in Rio de Janeiro and was gravely injured in a work-related car accident in the 1940s.

Personal Bests: 100 – 10.6 (1931); 200 – 21.8 (1928).
