Biografía

Javelin thrower Ingrid Thyssen twice reached the finals at the Olympics. In 1984 she finished sixth and in 1988 she was eighth. She was also nominated for the 1980 Moskva Olympics but due to the US-led boycott she did not start. Thyssen participated in the 1983 and 1987 Worlds and at four European Championships, placing 7th in 1978, 9th in 1982, 7th in 1986, and 6th in 1990. At the 1981 European Cup she placed third. Domestically Thyssen won West German titles in 1979-84 and 1987-88.

Her sister Cornelia was a middle-distance runner and her brother Guido was also a javelin thrower. Ingrid Thyssen became a sports instructor, employed by her home club Bayer Leverkusen.
