Inga Thompson-Benedict has likely won more titles than any US female road racer. She competed at three Olympics (1984-92), but without her usual success, never winning a medal. Thompson-Benedict was a four-time (1988, 1991, 1993) champion in the road race, and won the US title in the individual time trial in 1989-91. She was runner-up in the road race at the 1991 World Championships, and also added two silver medals from the Worlds in the team time trial (1987, 1990). Thompson-Benedict twice placed third in the Tour de France Feminine (Grand Boucle), in 1986 and 1989, an event no longer contested for women.
