Biografía

In 1952 West German breaststroke swimmer Herbert Klein won bronze in the 200 at the Helsinki Olympics. Four years later in Melbourne he was disqualified in the heats for using a scissors kick. Although Germany protested against the disqualification, the jury did not accept it. Klein was one of the world’s best breaststrokers in the late 1940s and early 1950s, winning 25 West German titles between 1948-54. In 1950 he was elected West German Sportsman of the Year. In 1950 and 1951 he set two world records in the 200 breaststroke. In his youth he was also active as a track & field athlete in the sprints and high and long jumps.
