Biografía

At the European Championships wrestler Heini Nettesheim won the freestyle lightweight title in 1937m was second in the Greco-Roman style in 1938, and the following year was placed fourth. At the 1936 Berlin Olympics he lost two fights, in the Greco-Roman lightweight division, and was eliminated.

After World War II he carried on wrestling and finished sixth at the 1951 World freestyle championships. He competed in the 1952 Olympics, together with his half-brother Ferdinand Schmitz, with Nettesheim competing in both classes. In the Greco-Roman he again failed to reach the third round, but in the freestyle he finished sixth.

Nettesheim won nine freestyle national titles between 1936 and 1950, and seven Greco-Roman titles between 1936 and 1943, along with several more podium finishes. He also won 26 international cups. After his active career he became a high school teacher at the Deutsche Sporthochschule Köln for 17 years. He became an Honorable Member of the North Rhine Westphalian Wrestling Association. Nettesheim died from kidney failure only four days before his 90th birthday.
