Biografía

Giacomo Mosele came from a large family that participated in a wide variety of sports, and several of his siblings won Italian championships in track athletics. Giacomo started off as a distance runner as well, but after World War II he took an interest in skiing. He soon specialized in cross-country skiing and came in second, behind Federico De Florian, in the 18 kilometer event at the national championships in 1952. This qualified him to represent his country at that year’s Oslo Olympics, where he placed 34th in a field of 80 entrants. His only other major domestic podium finish came in 1954, when he was again second behind De Florian, this time in the 50 kilometer competition. After retirement, he ran the Hotel Da Barba (“Beard” – Mosele’s nickname as an athlete) in his native Asiago, as well as a ski school.
