Biografía

Fred Scarlett followed his father, a former member of the Oxford University eight, as a rower. He was educated at King's School, Canterbury and Oxford Brookes University and was part of the university crew that gained a fair amount of success at the Henley Regatta, Scarlett rowed with in a pair with Steve Williams throughout 1998 and the duo reached the World Championship final at their first attempt. The pairing was broken up for 1999 and Scarlett was instead drafted into the British eight.

The crew placed second in all their major races in 1999 including the World Championships and then won the prestigious Lucerne Regatta in their last race before the Sydney Olympics. Rowing in the seventh seat at Sydney, Scarlett was part of the first British crew to win the Olympic title in 88 years. This was the last race of his rowing career. He now works in France for the Krug Champagne Company.
