Biografía

The second oldest of the five wrestling sons of a Camberwell insurance agent, Edgar Bacon competed at the four Olympic Games between 1908 and 1924. His older brother Stanley, competed alongside him in the first three of those Games whilst a younger brother Ernest took part in the 1924 Games meaning there were two Bacon brothers in each of those four Olympics. Stanley, who won the middleweight gold medal in 1908, was the only one of the three to win a medal. All three, along with another brother Cecil, won British titles with Edgar winning the light-heavyweight title in 1924, 1925 and 1927 and in that latter year he also won the middleweight title. Edgar Bacon was employed as a private chauffeur and thus maintained his amateur wrestling status, enabling him to compete in the first Commonwealth Games (then known as the British Empire Games) in which he won a silver medal in the light-heavyweight division.
