Don Scott ran track and played football and basketball for Mississippi State and later competed for the US Army. He was AAU 880y champion in 1916 and runner-up in that event in 1920. He completed the unusual double of competing at the Olympics in athletics and the modern pentathlon, finishing 26th in the pentathlon in 1924.
Scott starred for the Mississippi State Bulldogs football team in 1915 and 1916. In his honor, his name later graced the football stadium field at the school – Scott Field at Davis Wade Stadium. Scott was a career military officer. He served in the US Army, reaching the rank of colonel, and fought in both World Wars and the Korean Conflict. Prior to college he had prepared for a military career at Chamberland-Hunt Academy in Mississippi, one of the earliest military prep schools in the US.
