Biografía

The career of Arthur Murdoch was a brief one. He competed in his first ABA Championship in 1904, and two years later was the middleweight champion after beating J. W. Smith (Newton’s School of Physical Culture ABC). On his way to the final, Murdoch beat the defending champion, and Belsize BC team-mate, John Douglas, in the first round, after Douglas was disqualified for throwing his man to the canvas following a clinch. Following his ABA success, Murdoch restricted his boxing to club bouts, and exhibition and benefit matches, due to business commitments. However, he was considered good enough for the 1908 Olympic middleweight competition, but lost his opening heat to fellow Briton, and eventual bronze medallist, William Philo
