Biografía

Ana Guevara has a long career as one of the top female 400 runners in the world. Guevara competed at the 2000 and 2004 Olympics, winning a silver medal in the 400 at Athina. She also won three medals in the event at the World Championships, capped by a gold in 2003, adding bronzes in 2001 and 2005. Guevara was a three-time gold medalist at the Pan American Games, winning the 400 in 1999, 2003, and 2007, and helping Mexico win silver in the 2007 4x400 relay. Between 1998 and 2005 she won four gold medals and six medals at the Central American and Caribbean Games. Guevara also won the 400 metres at the 2001 Goodwill Games.

In 2009 Guevara entered politics as the Democratic Revolution Party (PRD) candidate for the Miguel Hidalgo delegation in Ciudad de México (Mexico City), but lost that election. However, she served as a Mexican Senator from 2012-18.

In December 2016 Guevara was riding a motorcycle near Mexico City when she was struck by a car. After she fell, four men got out of the car and assaulted her, striking her in the ribs and the head, and she reported that the men insulted her for being a female motorcyclist. The story made international news for concerns on assaults on women. Guevara was admitted to a local hospital but did recover fully from her injuries.
