A place of history and legends

Located at the most northerly point of the Ille-et-Vilaine, a short distance from Mont Saint Michel, Saint-Malo is a place of history and legends, the birthplace of illustrious figures and has retained its authenticity thanks to its ramparts, cobbled streets and old stone buildings. It is a maritime city with a strong and independent spirit. Saint-Malo was a republic for 4 years between 1590 and 1594 and has remained true to its motto: Not French, not Breton, but Malouin! It has many attractions, including the 4 forts built on islets in the 17th century according to the plans of military architect Vauban, the Saint Vincent cathedral, the Grand Bé islet which is the final resting place of François-René de Chateaubriand and, of course, its 1754-metre-long ramparts as well as its 15th century castle. However, Saint-Malo also boasts a 29-kilometre-long coastline with 11 beaches, including the famous Sillon beach, crowned France’s finest beach in 2018 and 2021.

Access to sport in the heart of the city

Helping and supporting those who need it most by promoting access to sporting activities is at the heart of the city's mission. As a result, it is stepping up communication in favour of clubs in Saint-Malo that welcome sportspeople with disabilities. The city’s two clubs that provide the opportunity to participate in para-sports are the Cercle Jules Ferry Handisport (disabled cycling with able-bodied guides, wheelchair and joëlette wheelchair hiking, multi-activities) and the city’s adapted sport association (multi-sport). The highlights of their year are the joëlette wheelchair hike to Mont Saint Michel and the regional/national adapted basketball tournament.
