A fraternal town
Lourdes is an emblematic town in France’s heritage, situated at the foot of the Pyrenees Mountains and renowned worldwide as an important pilgrimage site, welcoming more than 4 million visitors per year. Lourdes is a fraternal town and has specialised in welcoming the sick and people with disabilities. The “Lourdes, heart of the Pyrenees” project combines the fraternal dimension of this Marian town with its natural environment, making it a destination dedicated to rejuvenation and well-being.
Thanks to its range of hotels adapted for people with disabilities, Lourdes is the second on the list of towns or cities with the most hotels in France. With its sports facilities and position at the gateway to the Vallées des Gaves area, Lourdes is an ideal Pyrenean base camp for sports and para-sports.
A destination for all
Lourdes is committed to developing its urban area and sports facilities in a way that gives priority to access for people with disabilities. An accessibility plan for its roads and public spaces has been launched with the aim of obtaining the ‘Destination for All’ label.
The aim is to harmonise accessibility to all types of mobility, public spaces, accommodation, tourist services and leisure pursuits. In 2023, Lourdes hosted the BCPO Tour, which is a sport and health focused event that organises cycle tours in France and abroad.
