The capital of fire arts
Limoges, the leading economic hub of centre-western France, lies at the heart of an urban area home to more than 280,000 people. A green city part of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, it is known and renowned as the capital of fire arts due to the age-old presence of large-scale porcelain factories, art workshops that create glazes and stained-glass windows, and its industrial ceramics research applied to the aerospace sector. It boasts 117 sports facilities, where over 20,000 licence holders engage in sports for fun and competition. 75 sports and 150 clubs receive the constant backing of Limoges.
A vigorous para-sport policy
The city of Limoges has received the "Terre de Jeux 2024" label and been acclaimed for its active commitment to wheelchair rugby, wheelchair fencing and Paralympic judo, a discipline in which Cyril Jonard has been crowned world champion ten times. It also hosts domestic and international para-sport teams on a regular basis. Limoges will be the home base of the French national para-swimming team. It was also selected to host the latest edition of the Swimming World Series, with nearly 400 athletes competing in June 2024.
