A land steeped in history and spellbinding landscapes
Nestled between Burgundy, the ancient fief of the dukes, and the sparkling region of Champagne, Châtillon-sur-Seine is a small town oozing character. Saint Vorles's Church, a Romanesque gem dating from the 10th century, juts into the sky near the remains of the castle that was once the common abode of the Dukes of Burgundy and the bishops of Langres. This authentic slice of land where a centuries-old cultural heritage comes to life also has a museum hosting the Celtic Lady of Vix and her treasure. Sheltered among sprawling forests and hidden combes, Châtillon-sur-Seine is the only town in the heart of the Forêts National Park, the sole park in France devoted to the forest and the people who call it home. Straddling the Seine, the town boasts one of the most gorgeous sources in France, the source of the Duix, which is the oldest Celtic shrine found to date.
Sport as a way of life
The town has always believed in a vigorous sports policy. It is home to 32 clubs and sports organisations, with more than 2,300 licence holders in no fewer than 26 sports. Thanks to first-rate sports facilities accessible to people with reduced mobility, clubs can bring an adapted sports experience to everyone. On top of that, the town's "Pass'sport Junior" gifts every child aged 3 to 11 a licence in a local sports club. A plethora of sports-themed events are held in every season.
