An active and passionate community

With its passion for sport, Châlons-en-Champagne benefits from geographical advantages such as the Jards parkland and a number of water courses, which encourage sport and leisure activities. The city offers a wide range of facilities, including the Parlais des Sports Coubertin sports complex, which is home to the Marne’s professional basketball team. Around a hundred clubs are active in the city, and over 1,000 sporting events are organised every year, ranging from beginners' matches to professional matches and national events.

There are also sports facilities open to all and areas where the city’s inhabitants can take part in a limitless array of disciplines: street workout, skate park, multi-sport pitches and a mountain biking circuit, which will be built in 2024.

An area where sport and health matter

The local authority supports associations that develop para-sport activities. Some of the facilities, in particular the fencing centre, have been adapted to accommodate people with reduced mobility. Additionally, a number of clubs have also signed up to promote sport and health. Two local associations are dedicated to both disabled and able-bodied audiences and receive subsidies and slots at municipal sports facilities. Finally, the city regularly encourages organisation of competitions for people with disabilities, such as the French para-athletics championships.
