World Olympic Boxing Qualification Tournament 2024: Amit Panghal, Sachin Siwach headline perfect day for India
Sachin Siwach made the quarter-finals while Sanjeet Kumar, Amit Panghal and Jaismine Lamboria made the round of 16.
India’s Sachin Siwach (57kg), Sanjeet Kumar (92kg), Amit Panghal (51kg) and Jaismine Lamboria (women’s 57kg) edged closer to Paris 2024 Olympics quotas in their respective categories after winning their bouts at the World Olympic Boxing Qualification Tournament 2024 in Bangkok, Thailand on Thursday.
Siwach started the proceedings for India with a clinical 5-0 win over Olympian Batuhan Ciftci of Turkiye in the pre-quarterfinals while Sanjeet, the 2021 Asian champion, bested Luis Sanchez of Venezuela by an identical margin in his round of 32 bout.
Later in the day, Jaismine Lamboria blanked Azerbaijan’s Mahsati Hamzayeva 5-0 in her women’s 57kg category bout to make the pre-quarterfinals.

Commonwealth Games champion Amit Panghal completed a perfect day for the Indian contingent in Bangkok courtesy a 4-1 win over Mexico’s Mauricio Ruiz in his round of 32 encounter.
In the men’s 57kg category, only three boxers will obtain Paris Olympic quotas from the Bangkok meet. Siwach, therefore, needs to win two more bouts to secure one.
Sanjeet, who was handed a bye in the round of 64, will have a similar target as all four semi-finalists will secure quotas from the division.
So far, India have secured three Paris 2024 Olympic boxing quotas through Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain (women's 75kg), two-time world champion Nikhat Zareen (women's 50kg) and Preeti Pawar (women's 54kg).
However, as National Olympic Committees have the exclusive authority for the representation of their respective countries at the Olympic Games, athletes' participation at the Paris Games depends on their NOC selecting them to represent their delegation at Paris 2024.
India have fielded seven men and three women for the second World Olympic Qualifier to try and obtain more quotas.
At the Thailand meet, three quotas are up for grabs in the women's 60kg, men's 57kg and men's 80kg divisions. The men's 63.5kg and 71kg divisions each have five quotas on offer while the remaining nine categories have four each.
Indian boxers drew a blank at the first World Boxing Qualification Tournament held in Busto Arsizio, Italy in March.
