The biggest tennis stars in the world are descending onto the clay courts of Paris for the Olympic Games Paris 2024.

Played at the iconic Stade Roland Garros, the home of the French Open, this will be the first Olympic tennis competition played on clay since Barcelona 1992 and the first at a grand slam venue since London 2012.

Tennis players in the men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles are chasing Olympic gold in Paris, some making their Olympic debut while others will have their last chance at Olympic glory.

Here is everything you need to know about tennis at Paris 2024, the big names and how to watch the action live.

Tennis stars to watch at Paris 2024

There will be a host of big names playing in Paris, including men’s and women’s number ones Jannik Sinner of Italy and Iga Swiatek of Poland respectively. Sinner will make his Olympic debut, while for Swiatek it is her second Olympic appearance after playing in the singles and doubles competition at Tokyo 2020 held in 2021.

Two-time Olympic champion Rafael Nadal of Spain will play in his final Olympic Games, forming a highly anticipated doubles team with reigning Wimbledon and French Open champion, Carlos Alcaraz. It is a fitting pair which sees the king of clay and the future of Spanish tennis join forces for gold at Roland Garros.

Another tennis legend bowing out in Paris is Great Britain’s Andy Murray, the only player to win back-to-back Olympic golds in singles tennis, competing in his fifth and final Olympics. Defending men’s singles champion Alexander Zverev of Germany will be in Paris hoping to emulate Murray’s feat after winning gold three years ago.

Perhaps no man is more motivated than Serbia’s Novak Djokovic, one of the greatest players of all time who is only missing a gold from his hefty silverware haul. Then there is Swiss great Stan Wawrinka, Beijing 2008 doubles champion and making his Olympic return after 12 years and at the age of 39.

Defending women’s singles champion Belinda Bencic of Switzerland did not qualify for Paris, which means there will be a new gold medallist at Roland Garros.

One of the favourites is world number two Coco Gauff of the USA, who had to withdraw from Tokyo 2020 and will fancy her chances on clay. Japanese tennis star Naomi Osaka is back and hungry for Olympic glory after falling short at her home Games in 2021.

Tokyo 2020 doubles gold medallist and 2024 Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova of Czechia comes brimming with confidence after winning her second grand slam, while Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina will want to improve on her fourth-place finish in the women’s singles at Tokyo.

There is plenty more competition in the women’s draw. USA’s Jessica Pegula, Zheng Qinwen of the People’s Republic of China and Maria Sakkari of Greece are all top-10 players in with a shot; and watch out for Italy’s Jasmine Paolini too, a back-to-back grand slam finalist in 2024 and returning for her second Olympics.
