28 July is set to be a memorable day for Team USA at the Olympic Games Paris 2024. From LeBron James and the rest of Team USA men’s basketball beginning their campaign for a fifth consecutive gold medal, to Simone Biles’ return to the bars, beam, floor and vault, Day 2 of the Olympic Games Paris 2024 promises to be an athletic extravaganza of epic proportions.

The morning will begin with an exercise in precision, as archery and shooting take center stage. A rough-and-tumble afternoon of mountain bike, canoe slalom and women’s rugby sevens will then give way to an evening of big performances on the football pitch, at the basketball court, and in the swimming pool.

Read on to discover Team USA’s highlights on Day 2 of Paris 2024.

American athletes to watch on 28 July at Paris 2024: Simone Biles, LeBron James and Carson Foster

Biles knows what it feels like to be an Olympic champion. She’s tasted the rarefied air of gymnastics immortality, and the crushing reality of gymnastics mortality. She returns to the Olympic Games to prove that poise, grace and raw strength can overcome any obstacle, including a bout of the “twisties.”

She’ll look to define her experience at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 with monumental flips, ferocious spins, and an air of untouchable confidence. Her campaign to summit the Olympic podium will begin with the women’s team and individual all-around qualification at Bercy Arena, where she’ll compete alongside four teammates ready to push the limits of physics and human expression.

While Biles mesmerizes Paris with her acrobatic movements, James will lead Team USA against their fiercest group stage opponents, Serbia. James will assume the mantle of leadership, guiding a star-studded team of NBA players up the boards and to the rim, as he chases a third Olympic title.

Returning to the Olympic Games for the first time in 12 years, James will look to pick up where he left off, scoring basket after basket, dominating in the paint and assisting teammates shot after shot. He’ll face a stiff challenge from Serbia’s Nikola Jokic, but don’t expect “King James” to give up his throne easily. At least, not inside the amphitheater of basketball that is Pierre Mauroy Stadium.

As if the day wasn’t exciting enough already, Carson Foster will lead a contingent of swimmers ready to make waves more powerful than Teahupo'o at the Paris La Defense Arena. He’ll take on French superstar Leon Marchand in the men’s 400m individual medley, as he attempts to upgrade a pair of silver medals from the 2022 and 2023 world championships. Expect a wall of noise as the two titans of medley swimming go head-to-head to start an exhilarating session of swimming.
